Special Olympics York County

Provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

All training and competition opportunities are provided free of charge to the athletes and their families, enabling everyone to experience the benefits of Special Olympics that extend well beyond the playing field.

Special Olympics York County currently has 360 athletes participating in 17 sports programs. Our programs are supported by hundreds of volunteers, giving their time and talents and by the generous contributions from individuals, companies and organizations.

Alpine Ski Program

The Special Olympics York County Alpine Skiing Program is dedicated to providing training consistent with the principles of Special Olympics, providing athletes with life-long lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, ethical behavior, and creating a love for the sport of Alpine Skiing.

The ski season will begin with an off-snow training session held in the middle of December, and continues on Thursday evenings from January thru March (conditions permitting) at Ski Roundtop Mountain Resort. Additional training and competition opportunities may be offered throughout the season, please check the calendar for the schedule.

All athletes are encouraged to participate regardless of their skill level; coaching is offered at every level.

We have been blessed with having volunteers from the community come to lend their time and talent to our program and with the help from the staff at Ski Roundtop have been able to provide the athletes a safe and enjoyable training atmosphere.

Come on out and join us, you will be glad you did!

NOTES FROM THE COACH:

Welcome to the Special Olympics TEAM YORK Alpine Ski Page. I am excited about getting back on the slopes and have our first return to snow training date set to 08 JANUARY 2026 at Ski Roundtop Mountain Resort. Please plan to be there no later than 6:00 PM so we can get the season off on time with limited chaos (which will happen, I am just trying to manage it better). If you need rentals, please try to be there a little earlier so we can get you outfitted.

Once again will be competing in the Northampton Invitational and the 2025 PA Winter Games at Seven Springs. There is a chance we may add another competition as we have been invited to join in with the Special Olympics of Maryland  teams training at Whitetail resort on February 7th.  If you are interested in attending any of these events, please make sure you let me know. Registration closes on 4 January 2025.

We have a couple of new Athletes and Volunteers this season - I am looking forward to skiing with you. Please continue to monitor this websites calendar, your email, and text messages for important information throughout the season.

THINK SNOW!!!
